Mammoplasty

Augmentation mammoplasty is a surgical operation designed to increase the size of the breasts, for a number of reasons:

  • To improve the body contour of women who, for personal reasons, consider their breast size too small.
  • To correct a loss in breast volume after pregnancy.
  • To balance the size of the breasts, when there is a significant difference between them.
  • As a reconstructive technique in certain situations.

The shape and size of the breasts prior to surgery can influence both the recommended treatment and the final result. If the breasts are not the same size or shape before surgery, it is unlikely that they will be completely symmetrical afterward. There are several types of implants: silicone gel filled, physiological saline filled, with a smooth surface, textured, round or anatomical, etc.; you should discuss with your plastic surgeon the most suitable for each individual case.

Breast augmentation is achieved by implanting a prosthesis either behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscles. The incisions are blended so that the scars are as invisible as possible, usually around the lower part of the areola, or under the breast, or in the armpit. The method of implantation and the position of the prosthesis will depend on your preferences, your anatomy and the recommendation of your surgeon.

Alternative Treatment

Augmentation mammoplasty is an elective surgical operation. The alternative could be not having the procedure, the use of an external breast prosthesis or filler, or the transfer of other body tissues to increase breast size.

breast reduction

Women with large breasts can experience a number of problems related to the weight and size of the breasts, such as back, neck and shoulder pain, and skin irritation. Breast reduction is usually performed to improve these symptoms rather than to improve the appearance of the breasts. The best candidates are women who are mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the outcome. There are several different surgical techniques used to reduce and shape the breasts. There are both risks and complications associated with breast reduction.

Alternative treatment:

Reduction mammoplasty is an elective surgical procedure. Alternative treatment might include no surgery, physical therapy to treat pain, or the use of undergarments to support large breasts. In selected patients, liposuction has been used to reduce the size of the breasts. There are potential risks and complications associated with alternative surgical forms of treatment.

Le mastopexy or elevation mammoplasty is an elective surgical intervention aimed at raising ptotic or sagging breasts, for a number of reasons:

  • To improve the body contour of women, who have a ptotic or sagging breast.
  • To correct a loss in breast volume after pregnancy.
  • to balance the size and shape of the breasts, when there is a significant difference between them.
  • As a reconstructive technique in certain situations.

The shape and size of the breasts prior to surgery can influence both the recommended treatment and the final result. If the breasts are not the same size or shape before surgery, it is unlikely that they will be completely symmetrical afterward.

The intervention consists of restoring the filling of the breast by repositioning the breast tissues that have fallen and accommodating the excess skin by means of a lift plasty of the areola-nipple complex.

The incisions to achieve the elevation of the breast and proceed to the reduction of excess breast tissue, are made in such a way that the scars are not very visible and are hidden, usually below the breast vertically, around the areola and occasionally in the groove under the breast.

Alternative Treatment

The alternative treatment could consist of not carrying out the intervention or the use of undergarments to lift sagging breasts. There are potential risks and complications associated with alternative surgical forms of treatment.
